Wishing I was in Maui, but dealing with being here

FO Friday…………

NOT! No FO’s this week, but I’m close. My WIP from Wednesday is coming along.

However, I did go to Stitches West last night and today and have some new yarn and patterns to share!

The Haul

Two Skeins of Louret Gems (Sport) (Yellow) ON SALE (two for less than the price of one)

Two Skeins Madelinetosh Fingering (different colors) (Tart and I think the other one is Alizarin) 20% off at WEBS

Two Skeins Berroco Boboli (multi with irredescent colors) 20% off  at WEBS

One Ball Crazy Zauberball (different shades of blue)

Two Skeins Skye by Trendsetter yarns (shiney red) ON SALE

One Skein Alpaca-Wool-Mohair Fingering from Brooks Farms (blue, green, grey) ON SALE

Texelle Shawl Pattern from Phydeaux Designs NO SALES TAX on cash purchase

Yvonne Pattern from CoCo Knits NO SALES TAX on cash purchase

I have yarn in my stash for the Yvonne sweater and I might go back to Stitches Sunday afternoon for a Madelinetosh DK for the Texelle.

Except for the Madelintosh, the LYS’s I go to don’t carry the other yarns and I got the Mad 20% off because my purchase was over $60!

You have to know your yarn prices and the quality you’re buying. I am still surprised that a skein of  hand dyed sock yarn can cost an average of $25. I’m not complaining, just saying! I did tell DH that I “saved” money by shopping at Stitches since most items were on sale, I got a discount or I saved the sales tax (8.25%).

I also took a  one hour Market Class on W&T short rows. I’ve watched the video on Youtube but just couldn’t get it. Now I can do my Just enough Ruffles Scarf if I get brave enough to CO 300 stitches that doubles to 600 stitches at some point!

I did have a 1 degree of separation moment this week. My friend Melia who lives in Austria (the one I sent the knitted headband to, see last weeks FO Friday) told me when I posted on Facebook that I was going to Stitches that her friend Heatherly would be there as a vendor. Well, today I stopped by and said hi Heatherly. What a small world!

The weather here is BEAUTIFUL. It usually rains the weekend of Stitches and yesterday and today were in the mid 70’s. Tomorrow will be cooler, but just saying………..

Not sure this post will get up tonight as I can’t seem to get on Raverlry Forums, Patterns or Yarns. Sometimes that happens and I just have to wait.

Have a good weekend everyone and happy knitting.

WIP Wednesday………….

Not going to Knit Klub tonight as the room we use at the school is closed for Presidents Week (not day) Holiday. Working on a simple scarf with yarn I bought twice. Yes, I didn’t remember if I had bought the color or had just admired it. The LYS couldn’t check my purchase history to tell me so I bought it, again! I’ve been knitting on it for a few days when I find a pattern that I wish I had seen first but have too much invested in this to frog it. Be sure to click on the picture to see the detail. Almost a mindless knit.

The yarn is Classic Elite Woodland which interestingly has nettles as one of the fibers and is actually soft.. The pattern is Lost In Transit which is available for free on Ravelry by Jocelyn P Prasad. Jocelyn often posst on The Blog Hub forum on Ravelry. It’s an easy knit and will be really nice when it’s finished and blocked.

The pattern I wish I had used the yarn for is Trixie Cowl. The designer worked at Bobbin’s Nest before it closed a month ago. Dolin is very talented and really a sweet person. I’m sure there must be something in my stash I can use to make this cowl.

I’m going to Stitches West on Thursday evening and all day Friday. I have a market class (one hour) schedule on Friday. Not only am I looking forward to seeing all the yarn, patterns and accessories at the show but it’s a great time running into friends in the fiber world from around the Bay Area and around the country. I’ll post about it next week.

Have a good rest of the week.

FO Friday………

written on Saturday. I finished yoga socks for my SIL this week. I of course made two but didn’t take a picture wearing both of them before I sent them off on Friday. This is the pattern and the yarn was Bamboo and Ewe that I got at JoAnn’s . They were easy to make and only took a few hours over 2 days to make.

If you look at this post you can see what I have recently finished  but didn’t post on FO Friday last week.

Have decided to work on simple works until I can get my courage up to try knitting another sweater. If you haven’t seen the sweater debacle you can go to this post and this post.

I have found a new sweater pattern that one of the gals at the LYS made and it looks easy enough and I can use the Berroco Vintage Chunky from “the sweater that will never be mentioned again”. However, my printer is on the fritz and I can’t print the pattern to really study it.

Hope you’re all have a good weekend.

Haven’t been here……….

in a while,  not since the sweater debacle. I have moved on however. I finished a pair of socks, a shawl/scarf and a head band. I am working from my stash in anticipation of Stitches West which arrives in two weeks.

Not sure how this happened but I am the leader of the Adopt A Chaplain project for Faith in Action Weekend at out church on March 3rd and 4th. I have a clip board and everything! I’m getting people to sign up to bake cookies (and bring them ready to pack) people to pay for postage ($12.25 per box) and people to help pack the boxes for shipping. I’ve got the children in Sunday School drawing pictures for the soldiers. I have been busy baking cookies myself.  My plan is to bake a double recipe every Sunday until the project day. Last week I did peanut butter cookies and today I did oatmeal cookies. Will probably do chocolate chip cookies next week. Any other suggestions?

Have plans to go to Santa Barbara in March for a week. Looking forward to helping Carole restock her remodeled  kitchen with a trip to Sur La Table. Might get down to Huntington Beach to see Lin and maybe a visit with Angela.

Not sure what mini vacations we’ll take this year. Plans are in place for 3 weeks in Maui in September. Maybe another 5 days in Lake Tahoe in July will be in the plans.

That’s all for now. I’m hoping that The Blog Hub on Ravelry will be having a week long Blog Fest. I need something to get me blogging again.

Thanks for stopping by.
